Ag Student Wins 2019 KY Apprentice Bid Calling Championship

Seth with Bid Calling Championship plague

Seth Hembree, like many EKU students, has unique hobbies and talents outside of his academics. Seth is a junior Agribusiness Management student from Berea, Ky. Seth’s hobby, as well as employment, is in auctioneering. He began in 2016 with Ford Brothers.

Seth is very dedicated to his auctioneering, he even missed his high school graduation to take the test to become an apprentice. However, it is something that ‘just kind of happened’ for him. His mother knew an auctioneer and made the connection for Seth, and the tongue twisters his dad taught him to master as a child gave him a base to begin leaning the skills of auctioneering.

Along with auctioneering in high school Seth went to the state championship for fishing, but decided auctioneering is what he was going to pursue. Seth went on to attend the Kentucky Auction Academy in Bowling Green, Ky. This required a dedication of 10 hour days for two weeks to meet the required 80 hour course.

All of Seth’s hard work and dedication paid off as is the 2019 winner of the Kentucky Apprentice Division Bid Calling Championship.

Following the encouragement of his mother to attend EKU, Seth has connected his interest in auctioneering to an Agriculture degree and plans to pursue a career in auctioneering after he completes a real estate license.
